[The Register of Marriages from July 4, 1754, to November 19th, 1812, including the Banns, is contained in a thin volume measuring 16½ by 10 inches, strongly bound in soft brown leather, and contains printed forms to be filled up by the Minister.

There is a page of instructions how to fill up the blanks in the Register.
A full copy of the first complete register is given below and afterwards the dates and short particulars only. The word Mar. indicates that the marriage actually took place at Betley; the word Banns indicates that the Banns only were published there.
There are in this book 207 marriages. In 57 neither husband or wife could write. In 49 the woman could not write and the man could. In six, all after 1793, the man could not and the woman could. In all, 63 men could not write, 106 women could not write. Of witnesses, 12 men and eight women could not write.
